Ruhr Lecture: River-Ecosystems in Transformation – Conversion of the Emscher
In the winter term 2017/2018 the Ruhr Lecture was organized in cooperation with the Emschergenossenschaft and is dedicated to the Emscher Conversion. The series showcases the broad range of disciplines involved in metropolitan research in the University Alliance Ruhr: Researchers from all three universities as well as experts from the Emschergenossenschaft give insights into their current work. While the main focus lies on the Ruhr Region, experiences from other metropolitan regions are included in a comparative approach.
Since 2013, the Ruhr Lecture has been organized by the Institute of Geography at Ruhr-University Bochum and the Faculty of Spatial Planning at TU Dortmund University. In 2016 they were joined by the Joint Center “Urban Systems” at the University of Duisburg-Essen. As of the winter term 2016/17, the Ruhr Lecture is organized by the newly established competence field Metropolitan Research of the UAR. The series is part of the activities of the SURF-Network Ruhr (Urban and Regional Research Network Ruhr).
