The award honours outstanding doctoral theses and master's theses that deal with questions of the transformation of metropolitan areas in relation to the Ruhr metropolis (Ruhrgebiet). The reference to the Ruhr metropolis can either lie in the fact that the work deals entirely or to a considerable extent with the Ruhr area itself, or that it deals with issues that are highly transferable to the Ruhr area.\n\nThe KoMet Award is awarded annually and comes with a <strong>prize of 3,000\u20ac for the best doctoral dissertation and of 1,500\u20ac for the best master thesis<\/strong>. In the case of equally outstanding theses in one category, the award can be shared.\n\nApplication procedure: Theses can <strong>be nominated by supervisors and\/or examiners of theses<\/strong>. Theses that have at least received the grade of \u201cvery good\u201d\/\u201dmagna cum laude\u201d\/\u201cA\u201d (or equivalent) can be nominated if it was not submitted as a thesis more than two years prior to the deadline for nominations of this award. Any thesis can only be nominated once.\n\n<strong>Application documents<\/strong>:\n1) Summary of key findings of the thesis (2 pages max.)\n2) Short review or assessment by the supervisor or examiner (approx. 2 pages)\n3) One copy of the thesis\n4) Application template\n\nThe jury asks that documents be submitted exclusively in digital format as pdf documents and via e-mail to metropolenforschung@uaruhr.de . Only complete applications submitted in the required format and before the deadline can be considered.\n\n<strong>Application deadline: July 31, 2026 <\/strong>.\n\nThe award is administered by an independent Jury.
