The RISP \u2013 founded in 1980 \u2013 is a Ministry of science, NRW recognised Institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen. The research focus is on the accelerated structural change in the Rhine-Ruhr Region and in recent years, increasing globalization trends, the leaders in policy and administration, economy and science in many areas, new challenges. The Institute for regional and urban development research is a non-University research Institute, which examines the current and future development of cities from an interdisciplinary and international comparisons. The center for interdisciplinary regional research is an Institute of the faculty of social science at the Ruhr-University of Bochum, which is clogged with questions and problems in the Ruhr area apart. The centre for water and environmental research is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research centre at the University of Duisburg-Essen, which in 2003 under the name \"centre for micro-scale environmental systems (ZMU\") was founded. With the focus on the areas of Urban water cycle, biodiversity, water cycle, the ZWU serves the profile focus on \"Urban systems\" and combines the experience and the resources in the water and environmental research workers, scientists, and experts in the Region.
