KoMet researcher Prof. Dr. Bernd Noche, Chair of the Center for Logistics and Transportation at the University of Duisburg-Essen, appeared on WDR 5’s summer series “Typisch NRW” on July 28, 2021. The segment on the topic “Logistics for Traffic Congestion in Urban Areas” explored innovative solutions for the growing volume of package deliveries to private households. It featured the Ducktrain, developed by the startup DroidDrive, which is set to revolutionize urban logistics and, according to Bernd Noche, is particularly relevant for logistics in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Ducktrain consists of one or more electrically powered light vehicles that automatically follow a lead vehicle or person, enabling them to transport packages in urban areas with flexibility and ease of maneuvering. In particular, the optimization of digital shipment tracking and logistics chains still holds great potential and could prevent the looming traffic gridlock in cities in the future.
