How can European regions become climate-neutral? This is the central question of the new project “TRANSFORMER: Designing long-term systemic transformation frameworks for regions – Accelerating the shift to climate neutrality,” which the EU is funding with approximately 2.3 million euros as part of the Horizon Europe program. Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) is coordinating the project under the leadership of KoMet Scientist Prof. Dr. Matthias Kiese.
The Ruhr Metropolis will serve as a super-laboratory for the transformation process in the fields of transportation, the circular economy, energy, and industry. The specific focus here is on hydrogen.
The project team includes Business Metropole Ruhr GmbH, led by its Managing Director Prof. Dr. Julia Frohne, as well as other international institutions such as the Dolnoslaski Fundusz Rozwoju, Warsaw University, the “Dumni z Lubina” Foundation, the Regional Development Agency of Western Macedonia (ANKO), and the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH).
