Documentation of the TRANSFORMATION TALKS 2.0 now ONLINE Shaping urban change - where is the problem?
The transformation of metropolitan areas and the management of this change in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals is a collective future task that affects all societal sectors and spatial scales. Against this backdrop, the Graduate Network of the Metropolitan Research Competence Field (KoMet) and the Forum Nachwuchs NRW of the ARL invited young professionals, early-career researchers, students, and engaged individuals from citizen initiatives to the Transformation Talks. The TT 2.0 built on the success of the previous year's event and once again provided significant impetus for further collaboration in the field of urban transformation.
On June 21, 2024, the second edition of the Transformation Talks took place at Stapeltor in Duisburg. This event, organized by the Graduate Network of the Metropolitan Research Competence Field of the University Alliance Ruhr and the Forum Nachwuchs of the Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL) in NRW, was financially supported by NRW.Bank. It has become an important meeting point for young professionals, early-career researchers, students, and engaged individuals from citizen initiatives. More than 50 participants gathered to discuss the challenges and perspectives of urban transformation, particularly from the viewpoint of the younger generation. This summary provides a detailed insight into the content and outcomes of the Transformation Talks 2.0 (TT 2.0) and highlights the conceptual foundations and organizational structure of the event.
The event aimed to offer a low-threshold forum to showcase transformation in metropolitan areas across various transdisciplinary fields and to provide an informal platform to enhance transparency and collaboration between academia, practice, and civil society.
